  • If you were me..

I plan on becoming a actuary one day, however i have to choose which university in which to attend. I was just wondering if this was your choice, what would you choose.

    1) McGill: double major math& economics
    2) Waterloo : actuarial science
    3) Western Ontario : actuarial science
    3) U of T : actuarial science

If you were me, which would you pick? there are many factors to consider when choosing but im curious which you would pick if you wanted to be prepared well for the exams.

    Thanks for your time

1>>>{2,3,4} (my ranking is not influenced by the school, it is just dependent on the major. I am not sure how there mathematics/economics/actuarial studies programs are) If you can be a really solid Math major, and have the economics as well, you will will not only have the benefit of learning rigor, but you will also have the more intuitive economics background. IMO. Awesome that you are interested and driven this early. Master those calc classes, take probability, analysis, and try possibly to be introduced to measure theory, Completely understand macroecon, and basic finance. Do all this and you will breeze through the first few exams.

Thanks, i haven't done any stats our high school just does AP calc which im doing very well in. I live in bermuda and both of my parents are in the insurance industry so its just naturally something i want to do. Waterloo's program is suppose to be very very good (a lot of students graduate with 4 exams) and i believe one of the head guys from the SOA teaches there. Im just worried that a actuarial science degree would be to focused, but thats why im on this website seeing what actual experience actuary's have to say. My biggest dilemma is the major, math or actuarial science and im just not sure what to do.
