  • How important is a degree?

    none of the college im even thinking about applying to offer an acturail science major. From what i heard, as long as u past the tests, u should be fine, but where do we actually learn how to do teh job?

    On the job.

    There's no class in college that will tell you how to organize the numbers (besides maybe a class where you incorporate Excel/Access).

    But getting classes to prepare to you pass the exams is the whole point of the actuarial science major.

      It's important that you get a degree. What degree you get is not as important if you can show you can pass exams.

        QFA. If you don't have a degree, your resume will go straight to the dumpster. A degree is a sign that you can commit yourself for 4+ years, endure times of intense studying, the pressure of multiple finals, and won't quit without reaching the goal. That's what companies are looking for - they don't want someone who's got a track record of getting stuff mostly done but never slamming the door shut and completing things.
