I'm getting closer, Mike. Now you will widen the gap with your impending pass.

All love! And congratulations to all who passed! For those who didn't, target and hone in on your weaknesses/trouble topics and keep up the studying (I would suggest Mahler's Notes), and you will prevail in May.

Word. Congrats! We'll see if the gap remains at two exams.

Hey Godspeed, you used the Mahler notes for spring 05 C, right? I bought the fall 05 C notes, but opted not to take the test last November.

Yeah I was wondering to where you went these past couple of months, but if you'd rather not elaborate, I understand.

I did use the Spring '05 C Notes for the Fall '05 C exam, yes. Although, there was one question regarding D(x) plots that I never recall seeing in those notes; it may have been in there, but I thought I looked through almost everything in the Notes. So I'm basically saying that Mahler, in addition to Professor Broverman's practice problems on this forum, adequately prepared me for C. Apparently the passmark was 23/35.

If you have any questions about the notes, just ask. And, are you taking two exams in May? God Bless.

Eh, I just needed a break from studying. I spent most of my time on the credibility portions of Mahler. I figured if I was going to study what p and q and multiple decrements meant, I might as well take exam M and C next May.

Well, that should help, considering there were several (as expected) questions on credibility on C this time.

I wish you the best with doubling up. I think I'm going for just CAS 3, but hopefully we (and others) can help each other on these forums with questions that might arise.

Also, how did your job search turn out (if you don't mind my asking)?

Let's see. I had a disastrous phone interview with Pacificare in late July. I was scheduled for a phone interview with Farmers Insurance in November, but they never called me for it. I got a voice mail on my cell phone from NCCI in Florida, but they never returned my follow up call. And all this time I've been pushing CALPERS, a public pension fund, to get me a job. I'm heading back to their office this Monday to cut through some red tape.

Anyway, if I don't get an actuarial job by this fall, I'm giving it up. I'm already scheduled to take an exam to start my math teacher credential.

                  Must it be in California?

Must the job be in California? Plenty of great jobs in the Midwest ... I have just returned from a trip to Santa Barbara back home to Bloomington/Normal, and can understand why you like the views in California, but there are also taxes, schools, and traffic, so Midwest may not be as pretty, but has plenty to offer in terms of quality of life. And real estate is quite inexpensive in Central Illinois ...

You're not kidding. It's even cheaper in Southern Illinois - but nothing for actuaries there. With any luck, I'll be back in that area in a year or two.
