I am about to order my book for FM and I just want to make sure it is going to be adequate. I am planning on buying the latest ASM manual, which is supposed to have 1000 practice problems. I have never taken a finance class and this will be the first time I learn the material. Therefore, would you say this manual is good for someone who is just learning the material for the first time? If not, what other books should I get on top of this? Thanks a lot!

I used the ACTEX study manual, and it was NOT adequate. I failed my first attempt. I then used the ASM manual along with an 60 day subscription to the Coaching Actuaries website/practice exams. I found that to be the difference for me. The ASM manual is superior to ACTEX in my experience.
