  • Question! (Poisson distribution)

    Hello, I’m having issues with this problem:

    “A typesetter makes an average of 1 error per 500 words. A typical page contains 300 words. What is the probability that there will be no more than two errors in five pages?”

    The answer is 0.4232; I’m getting 0.9768, for some reason.

    My set up is P(errors <= 2) = P(errors=0) + P(errors=1) + P(errors=2); I’m using the Poisson distribution with lamda = 3/5 (3 errors in 5 pages).

    I’m figuring that either my set up or lamda is wrong, but am being brain dead as to which and how. A fresh set of eyes would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey calley,
    Your Selection of lemda is wrong.here lemda = 5*(300/500)
