  • Recursive relationship for the binomial, Poisson and negative binomial

    Hi for those who know what this is, what's the point of knowing the recursive relationship for these distributions?
    The only reason I can think of is being able to derive the probability function using the recursive rule.
    Are there more reasons why we should know this?
    I'm just trying to see how important this is and whether I really need to focus on this for the exam.

    Not sure what you mean. It's just a consequence of how a distribution is defined. You can easily make up problems that require someone to apply this property of the distribution(s).
